Pea “Children's Sweetness” — Pisum sativum.
An early-ripening marrow variety of sugar pea. From germination to the first harvest is 45—50 days. The stems are of medium length: 60—70 cm. The pods are long and wide.
Not only the pea seeds are used for food, but also the whole pod entirely. The pod valves are without a hard parchment layer, juicy, fleshy, sweet, with a delicate taste.
Unripe pods are a wonderful treat when fresh.
Before sowing, the seeds are soaked in water until they swell. Crops are placed in sunny areas with drained, non-acidic soils. They are sown to a depth of 3—4 cm.
To prevent the stems from lodging, supports are installed after germination. To obtain peas throughout the summer, seeds are sown in 2—3 periods with an interval of 10—15 days.
Nodules develop on the roots of peas, in which bacteria bind atmospheric nitrogen and accumulate it in the form of compounds accessible to plants. After the growing season, the plants are cut off, leaving the roots in the soil.
